As an expert in health economics and outcomes research, Kathy provides strategic and tactical insights to bio-pharmaceutical companies. Her industry experience includes corporate and consulting work spanning more than 20 years, with an additional 15 years engaged in academic and National Institutes of Health research. Kathy is actively engaged in client work as well as managing her company, Strategic Healthcare Solutions, LLC. She is an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
With a focus on managed care and real-world evidence for payer strategies, Kathy has worked across a variety of chronic and acute diseases including cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, musculoskeletal, arthritis, renal, and oncology. As an external resource, she led the health economics and outcomes research work for respiratory products (asthma and COPD) at AstraZeneca for 2 years during a period of in-licensing several products and launching their first respiratory biologic product. She worked at Merck and Co. and collaborated in the building of the Outcomes and Performance Assessment division of Merck Medco, a pharmacy benefit management subsidiary. Her work involves both US and global initiatives to gain access and improve reimbursement status for new and existing products.
Utilizing her entrepreneurial skills, Kathy partnered with a close marketing colleague to establish and lead a new department, Managed EDGE, within a professional advertising organization in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Prior to this, she was an active researcher at the Gerontology Research Center, National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, and faculty member in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Kathy has a PhD in epidemiology and preventive medicine from University of Maryland School of Medicine and a Master of Health Science from the Department of Epidemiology, The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
